Transport – Wheels

S  T  SS

Year 1-8

Experience a wide variety of wheels designed for many different purposes.  See these wheels in authentic settings. Conduct an investigation using fair testing.

Tram Ride

While you ride our electric tram, consider why vehicles run on rails.

Rural History

Examine the wheels of vehicles and machines used in the countryside.  Hear the splutter of a 1913 Lister engine and the clank of a hay bailing machine in action.

Wheels Experiment

Compare the performance of different wheel designs on different surfaces, using fair testing.  Consider the forces acting upon these wheels.  A simplified version of this experiment exists for younger pupils.

“The programme met our objectives by allowing children to see simple examples of gears, levers and wheels.  They were able to touch and look for wheels.”  (Merrin School)
