Telephone Systems

Transfer calls using old-fashioned switch boards and use a variety of old telephones at Post and Telegraph.

Film

Experience an old-time picture show in an authentic setting featuring aspects of communications in the past.

Printing

Experience a working print shop from another era. Learn about an Albion press, a typesetting machine and a paper-folding machine.

Emergency Services

Visit our Hall of Flame and find out about emergency communications over time, both in the station and at the scene of the fire.  Suitable Year 3+

Musical Equipment Over Time

Find out and experience the history of music in the home. From phonograph to gramophone, pianola to tape recordings.

Posting a Letter

View a film strip of the 1950s about posting a letter. The students then process the letter, from writing a letter through to the sorting for delivery.   Suitable Year 1-2
